What People Have Shared With Us

SP

Siriporn Phansiri

Bangkok, Thailand

"My mother passed last year and we spent weeks just trying to find out what accounts existed and which contacts to notify. I did not want my own children to face the same thing. The Legacy Documentation Toolkit gave me a clear way to start. It took me about three weeks of occasional evenings to fill everything in properly."

"I have been meaning to sort out a proper inventory of my property and financial accounts for years. The spreadsheet templates made it much more manageable than I had expected. My only note is that I would have liked a slightly more detailed guidance note for the insurance section — but I contacted Legacara and they answered my question quickly."

"The Heirloom Cataloguing materials were exactly what I needed for my father's antique collection. He had been collecting old Thai silver pieces for forty years but almost nothing was written down. I worked through the catalogue format over a couple of months, photographing each piece and adding the notes he had always told us verbally. Now those accounts are part of the record."

"What I appreciated most was that there was no pressure. I ordered the toolkit, received it the next working day and then worked through it when I could. Nobody followed up to ask if I had finished or to offer me additional services. That kind of restraint is unusual and I valued it."

"I used the Asset Inventory Templates as a starting point while helping my parents organise their affairs. The contact records template in particular was something I had not thought to include — it turned out to cover things we had never written down anywhere. A straightforward and useful set of materials."

"I had looked into other approaches to personal record organisation but most of them involved either cloud storage or subscriptions. Legacara was different — one payment, files I keep on my own computer, nothing stored elsewhere. That was what I needed."

Three Situations, Three Approaches

Case Study 01

A Family in Bangkok Sorting Through an Estate

Challenge

After the passing of a parent, the adult children had no clear picture of what financial accounts existed, which insurance policies were current or who the relevant professional contacts were. The process of finding this information took several weeks and required multiple calls to institutions.

Solution

One of the children ordered the Legacy Documentation Toolkit for their own household, wanting to avoid the same situation for their own family. They worked through the folder structure over six weeks, completing it section by section during evenings. The personal instructions template took the most time — three separate sessions — but they found the format clear.

Outcome

A complete personal record set, stored locally, with a summary sheet shared with a trusted family member. The client noted that the experience of completing it was itself useful — it surfaced three accounts they had not thought about in years and prompted them to consolidate insurance arrangements.

"The hardest part was just starting. Once I opened the folder structure and saw the sections laid out, it became much more straightforward."

Case Study 02

Documenting a Three-Generation Ceramics Collection

Challenge

A family in Chiang Mai held a collection of around 80 ceramic pieces accumulated across three generations. Knowledge about individual items — origin, age, how they were acquired — existed only in the memory of one elderly family member. Nothing was written down.

Solution

The family used the Heirloom Cataloguing materials to work through the collection systematically. The eldest family member was interviewed for each piece while the written entries were completed by a younger family member working from the provenance template. Photography was taken using the guidance notes provided.

Outcome

A digital catalogue of 78 pieces, each with a written description, photograph, provenance notes and any known history. The catalogue has since been shared with family members in two other cities. The family noted that several pieces turned out to have more interesting histories than they had realised.

"Those conversations would have happened eventually — or they might not have. This gave us a reason to sit down and actually record them."

Case Study 03

A First Step at 58 — Starting with a Simple Inventory

Challenge

A self-employed professional in Phuket had been meaning to organise their personal records for several years but found the whole subject daunting. Every previous attempt to start had been abandoned because the task felt too large and undefined.

Solution

Starting with only the Asset Inventory Templates kept the scope manageable. The client began with the financial accounts register — just that section — and found it took about an hour to complete once they had gathered the relevant paperwork. That initial session made continuing much easier.

Outcome

A completed inventory across all template sections, finished over three weeks of occasional work. The client subsequently ordered the Legacy Documentation Toolkit to build on what they had started. A straightforward progression that worked at their pace.

"I had expected it to feel heavy. It turned out to be quite satisfying once I was actually doing it. The templates gave me something concrete to fill in rather than a blank page."
